Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate each have their own character, and they're all within a short drive, bus or train ride of each other. Here are some of our favourites.
Margate
- Turner Contemporary: the seafront gallery with free entry and some of the best sunsets in England from its terrace.
- Dreamland: the historic amusement park, with vintage rides, live music and events.
- The Shell Grotto: a mysterious underground passage covered in millions of shells. Nobody knows who made it, or when.
- Margate Old Town: independent shops, vintage finds, cafés and some great restaurants.
- Walpole Bay tidal pool: a huge sea-water pool in Cliftonville, perfect for a swim at low tide, with the free Dulcie Community Sauna nearby to warm up afterwards.
Broadstairs
- Viking Bay: a classic sandy bay with a harbour, beach huts and rock pools.
- Morelli's: a much-loved ice-cream parlour on the seafront.
- Dickens' Broadstairs: Charles Dickens loved the town, and you can follow in his footsteps.
- Broadstairs Folk Week: every August the town fills with music and dancing.
Ramsgate
- The Royal Harbour: Britain's only Royal Harbour, lined with bars, restaurants and boats.
- Ramsgate Tunnels: guided tours of the wartime tunnels beneath the town.
- Seal trips: boat trips from the harbour to see the seals in Pegwell Bay.
Beaches and walks
- Botany Bay: famous white chalk stacks and rock pools, beautiful at sunset.
- Kingsgate Bay and Joss Bay: quieter coves, with Joss Bay popular with surfers.
- The Viking Coastal Trail: a cycling and walking route around the coast, linking all three towns.
- Dog walkers: many beaches have summer dog restrictions, so ask us for the best dog-friendly spots.
Further afield
- Canterbury: the cathedral city is a short train ride away.
- Westwood Cross: the shopping centre for everything else you need.
